Mechanism of Action:
Abametapir is a metalloproteinase inhibitor that targets louse metalloproteinases which are critical to their development and hatching.The drug inhibits enzymes called metalloproteinases. In lice, these enzymes play a role in egg development and survival;[1] and consequently, blocking them will disrupt the lice’s life cycle.
Drug Indications:
Abametapir is indicated, in the context of an overall lice management program, for the topical treatment of head lice infestation in patients 6 months of age and older.
